sketches of my day May 2008 - Nov 2010

New life

This day was one to live happily in forever. The sun was there but not too hot, just right to feel on my back while a stooped to pull weeds and plant squash in my garden, just right as I picked a bowl full of strawberries for Andrew and Elizabeth, and just right as I walked on the edge of the woods and picked dewberries while the smell of honeysuckles reminded me of a place and a time in childhood. The sky was perfectly blue and cloudless except for a puff of Cumulus that needed to be in someone’s painting.

I still have okra to plant. I am waiting for the ground to warm up a bit. I remember Miss Sue telling me it should be planted in June, when the sun had warmed the ground enough for the hard seeds to sprout. I think I will try May.

I have 6 baby chicks in my laundry room; they are as soft as a raindrop and peep all day long.

I took my very lo tech camera outside and found

New life – spring is here.

She will grow up to be a Barred Rock and will lay free range brown eggs.

This is a 'soon to be" blackberry.

I wish you could see this newborn dragon fly sitting on the white petunia.

This baby honey bee is so tiny, but very independent finding his breakfast in my Blue Daze.

There is a baby caterpillar, hidden by the old wood - hidden from the birds, hoping to some day become a beautiful butterfly.

This is the nest I posted earlier - there are now three tiny eggs and a mother bird who is sitting in a tree nearby and fussing loudly at me while I snap this shot. Her entire existence is about making this nest and hatching these eggs and feeding her baby birds. She is not distracted by the "next new thing" or "finding herself" or climbing some "pie in the sky" corporate ladder; she is "simply" a mother bird.

Till next time,
